they, they, they go to a planet that's very obviously Northern California, and they muck around.
50:50
Yep.
50:50
Here's my story of Star Trek Beyond.
50:52
I went to see Star Trek Beyond with my roommate from grad school, who was also a big Trek fan.
50:58
We had a great time.
50:59
I remember that we were in the movie theater, and we had a great time.
51:03
One week later, my roommate from grad school says something about, like, "When we saw Star Trek Beyond last weekend..." And I was like, "What are you talking about? We didn't see Star Trek Beyond last weekend."

31 MINS LATER

[laughs]
16:17
What hooks you in?
16:19
So I feel like I have a very different answer to this question than a lot of hardcore Star Trek fans do, because the answers that you usually see in big like why is Star Trek great think pieces across the Internet and all the stuff is like we love the optimism and the utopian vision and like the dream for the future and how great and lovely it is.
16:39
And like, yes, to all those things.
16:41
But none of those things are actually why I love Star Trek, because, you know, I'm a cynical bastard, so I don't believe in optimism and happiness and things like that.
16:49
um but what i do believe in is big dumb fun and that is what hooked me into star trek and that is why like even yet you know several series later um the original series is still where my heart lives um that's always gonna that's always gonna be my favorite of the shows i won't necessarily say that it's the best of the shows but it will absolutely always be my favorite it's also
18:12
Yes.
18:13
And part of loving its characters is developing them in the way that it does and exploring both, you know, their highest and lowest points.
18:20
Yeah.
3:59
ever seen no
4:01
this is this is the second movie i've ever seen the first one funnily enough i think was the bye-bye man um that benefited from being seen in a room full of teenagers okay uh-huh because i saw it in a room full of teenagers we were all skipping school together is my assumption um and they're like their reactions to it are not maybe like a fundamental part of the movie i think it would be perfectly possible to enjoy this on your home screen in a nice quiet living room as well but i think they definitely amped up the energy of the movie in some really key parts And also, I'm discovering that I enjoy watching horror movies, at least to an extent, with baby horror fans who are just starting to come into their little, to grow into their little baby horror fan shoes.
4:54
And they have not seen the kinds of cinematic tricks that the rest of us have seen over and over again.
5:00
So it's like the whole Prospero in the Tempest, tis new to thee, this brave new world phenomenon happening with them.
5:06
But that's not actually about the movie.
5:09
I do understand why Obsession is like cleaning up among certain audiences and occupying a huge part of the audience.
5:19
of especially the younger film goer mental landscape right now um in case you are like these two and one of like the dozen people in america who hasn't seen obsession yet um the basic premise is that there's this i can't figure out how old these people are supposed to be Like, I assume they're very young 20-somethings just because of the way they generally exist.
6:13
But
