Could you comment on key aspects of your recent publications on quality of life in MG?
22:56
Yeah.
22:57
Across our recent publications, we argue that life with myasthenia gravis cannot be understood through symptoms and physical function alone.
23:07
Our work on Are You Weary of Illness? Coping an Existential Positioning in Life with Myasthenia Gravis highlights how patients often struggle not only with muscle weakness, but with what we have termed illness weariness, the ongoing existential work of living with a fluctuating and unpredictable body.
23:26
At the same time, we found that patients may respond through what we call uncompromisingness, a persistent insistence on participation, dignity, meaning and engagement in life, despite bodily limitations.
23:38
Physical activity, meaningful activities and supportive relationships may become important ways of maintaining direction and engagement in life.
23:48
Taken together, this study suggests that quality of life in myasthenia is not only about symptom reduction, but also about maintaining direction and the possibility of continuing to be oneself.
