But it would appear that we have lost lots of areas of drainage, Malcolm, and, uh, even this dry weather we've had ha- has not been enough to absorb the level of rain we saw yesterday.
2:27
No, and, and no disrespect to your show, it's probably less hard shoulders and more soft verges, and I do think that, um, the, the, the one thing we've seen, we've had a really, really dry summer, as you say.
2:37
That can, the- there are ongoing maintenance issues in our urban centers that maybe hard materials can, can solidify in drains and, and block up, block them up during the summer.
2:47
And if there's rain forecast, uh, local authorities need to be proactive and get out and empty those drains.
2:52
So the storm water drains, that's really essential to maintain those.
2:55
But in the bigger picture, we do need to deploy nature-based solutions at scale in our urban centers.
3:00
We need to look at biodiversity net gain in all new housing developments.
4:20
But I would have thought that there might have been better ways of running a campaign than this.

What's the status of PNG in Ireland today?
3:52
At the moment, it seems to be quite piecemeal.
3:54
So there are some activities within some local authorities in the country.
3:59
Some have references to BNG in their development plans, but there's nothing really happening from a national coordinating perspective.
4:08
We see some really good work going on in some of the local authorities, perhaps based around nature-based solutions largely, without a specific reference to BNG.
4:17
And that point that Jason made about the off-site versus on-site solutions, I think I mean, if we look at the weather we're currently having across Europe, I think we see there's no doubt about it, but that the on-site solutions will be much more center stage as we try and adapt to what is a changing climate.
4:35
Some of the work we've been focused on in the last couple of months in this current cycle of the Dáil and Shannon and the government would be to try and see, can we look at where the opportunity lies? And one of the big opportunities we have now is that we now have to embark on a new national nature restoration plan.

So we'll also link to that in the show notes.
