But also it gives us an idea for what can be done in spaces, particularly with new architectural builds as well, what can be achieved in our environment and whether you're interested in design or just the challenges of living in a city like Brisbane?
58:04
Well, I think that's what underpins the event in a Brisbane setting is that it's Brisbane solutions to Brisbane's place and there's nothing like the uniqueness of South East Queensland housing.
58:16
It's quite different to housing anywhere else in Australia and contemporary versions of that are very creative and very interesting solutions different solutions to the same problem.
58:27
So that is very popular.
58:29
But equally, you look at a couple of the tall commercial buildings we've got in the program this year, 360 Queen and 205 North Quay, very different post-COVID public space buildings that reflect the climate that we're in, people a lot of room to move around and enjoy.
58:49
The fact that they're going to work is a bit different now to what it was before.
58:53
prior to COVID and so the nature of the way we all live is constantly changing and our program tries to reflect that in the sort of things you can see but equally you always want to go and look at your heritage things and we find We've got a lot of good heritage sites.

I can't even imagine what you might put on your list of must-sees, but if you could single out a few for us, Malcolm, what do you think we should put on the list of things to go check out in your open house program for this year?

Can you tell us the scale of this event and the appetite, the current appetite for architecture in Brisbane?
0:24
Yes, it's an event that's slowly built and we had a very high point before COVID.
0:30
As you could imagine, COVID was quite a problem for public gatherings, so we had to basically start again a few years ago.
0:38
But it's rebuilt very quickly and it's basically got the goodwill of, as you said, this is the 17th year.
0:47
and people you know there's so much to discover in the city there's always the program can always offer something new every year and that's I guess part of its success that you can go and visit old favourites but you can also go and see something that either wasn't built or wasn't in the program and we have that from big buildings to houses as as you've indicated It's got a lot of variety in it.
1:12
If you want to take a drive and see something a little bit out of the city, you can go to the port or go to Wivenhoe Dam or go to other sites that we've got that you can find on the webpage.
1:27
So there is just an enormous variety of Brisbane-ness in the program.
