Malayan Emergency

Well, um, we realized that we couldn't, um...

Oh, we were involved in the Malayan Emergency.

Mm.

Um, but there was no opposition, so we were able to operate, um, safely at 15,000 feet, and all the operational raids were, um, were, were zeroed in by ground-based radar trucks who called us in over themselves and told us when to drop the bombs.

But since that time, the names of others killed in subsequent conflicts were never added.

Veteran of two conflates, the Malayan Emergency and Vietnam War, Ron Glew was president of the Balmain-Roselle-Aracel sub-branch when he began a campaign to honour those who paid the ultimate price for Australia.

The main thing that we do is we make a pledge to remember those that have fallen.

That was not being done here.

But what does that do?

One is it reminds me a lot of when my father, uh, was fighting the communists in the Malayan Emergency, where they created something called a White Areas Policy, where basically they removed communities from rural areas and put them in these urban settlements so that they could supervise them and surveil them and put gates around them and fences around them.

The second thing is, I was wondering whether there wasn't an echo when we were talking, uh, about the Hagmar militia with the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
