Uh, what's some stuff that you're proud of from being on the, the Neighborhood Council?

So I've been a member of the executive committee for about six of my going on eight years.

I've been the treasurer for the Neighborhood Council since 2020.

I got involved with our finances at the beginning of COVID.

We formed an emergency funding task force, and the treasurer at the time asked me to be a part of it, and we helped to delegate our funding to go directly into the community to help, you know, just organizations that were helping the broader community, like the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic and Ground Game LA and a lot of these great local grassroots organizations.

That was a really cool experience.

The treasurer at the time said that she was now gonna be running for re-election for treasurer on our board and said she wanted to appoint me, and I...

Right.

Yeah

... you know, part of why I decided to run for neighborhood council...

So I always go by Maebe.

My, my real, my real name is not Maebe A.

Okay, sorry.

Mm-hmm.

Um, but I've been deeply involved in community, deeply involved in local governments.

Uh, on the council I serve, uh, on the executive committee.

I serve as our treasurer for the past six years, so I'm the one writing our budgets and making sure that we are p- pouring as much money back into our communities as possible.

Uh, I'm the progressive choice for this race for state Senate.

There's eight candidates running.

There's, uh, two Republicans and six Democrats.

Mm-hmm

Mm.

We need funding, we need people, we need volunteers to, uh, help us knock on doors.

We've already knocked on thousands of doors.

We're polling high.

The issue is that our biggest opponents is backed by all these corporate donors, so she has tons of money to be able to send out mailers and get the communications out, whereas I have been a, an entirely corporate-free candidate ever since I've been in politics.

And, you know, we've spoken many times before.

I'm now entering my eighth year in local office.

Yep.

So this will be my, my final two years on the neighborhood council.

It's been a really awesome experience.

Um, you know, a lot of local organizing and getting your neighbors to get together and care about the community.

You know, we also influence legislation at the city level through community impact statements.

We do neighborhood purpose grants.
