And, um, how did that song come together?
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
43:41
That song was really about my feelings while I was writing the r- when I was working with Stuart in the beginning, and a lot of people were in my ear saying, "Oh, you should do this, and you should do that, and you should collaborate with this person, or you should make this kind of a song." And making me very, like forcing me to, um, focus on what's popular, you know, algorithms, following trends, and I, I found it to be the antithesis to art and creativity.
Madonna

So I was struggling with that paradox.
Madonna

44:17
And so, you know, when I say, "Don't try to distract me with numbers.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
44:22
I did it all for love," I'm like s- I don't wanna think about streaming numbers when I'm writing a song.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
44:27
I need to tell the story, you know what I mean?
45:54
Um, like, who did, who did you first meet at this club? Like, what, what about this club stood out to you so much?
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
45:59
People's fashion.
24:49
And this is why you have to hold on to relationships even more precious, but don't let things destroy you at the same time.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
25:19
We live in a very busy, chaotic world.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
25:21
Lots of noise, lots of distraction.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
25:24
I mean, how many times have you heard people say, oh, you know, social media and like all the, you know, people can't walk down the street without listening to music.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
25:34
Everybody has to be visually stimulated all the time.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
25:36
Like there is no peace.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
25:38
There is no quiet.

What's your intention for being here today? Why now? Why today?
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
41:39
Well, in the past, I've usually done interviews to promote my work, whether that's music or a tour or film.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
41:47
Um, but today, I would like to talk about my spiritual life and the spiritual path that I've been on for over 28 years.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
41:58
This wisdom, uh, has helped me navigate the, the ups and downs of life, for lack of a better expression.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
42:08
People ask me a lot through the years, like, "What is the reason you're still sane? What is the reason you keep going? Why have you not fallen by the wayside like other people?" Um, definitely a lot of my peers who, uh, who are no longer with us, like, "What would you say is the key?" And I would say, "That it's my spiritual life." I absolutely would not be where I am or who I am if I did not have that.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
42:36
It's helped me enormously, as I said, um, navigate the ups and downs of life.
Madonna

So, I, I feel like, uh......
44:04
It's a long time.

MADONNA: For the First Time Ever

Sep 29 · 2h 16m

32:59
How was-
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
32:59
Well, my mother died after giving birth to all my brothers and sisters, so literally, like, the year after my youngest sister was born, my mother died.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
33:08
So, I, I always equated motherhood with death.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
33:12
So in, and I also equated it with I could see she was not happy.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
33:17
I could see she wasn't living the life she wanted to live.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
33:20
I equated it with death.
Madonna
MadonnaGUEST
33:22
I, or I equated it with no freedom, or I equated it with no, no life except taking care of other people.
