Now, why is that such a huge issue for EHS leaders?

Yeah, absolutely.

Um, I'd say first is common, common to really just environmental regulations in the US in general, but having federal code with then each state having their own additional regulations, and then even county or municipal requirements just creates a lot of complexity for organizations.

I think just to help people understand, uh, the tax code is about half the size of just the federal environmental code of federal regulations, doesn't even get into the state or local components.

Um, specific with waste, we're seeing, uh, a few different trends, but regulators since 2018 with e-Manifest have been driving digital compliance.

Organizations have had to adapt to this, but it has also allowed regulators to have a lot more, uh, enforcement without having to do physical inspections.

With the national e-Manifest database, we're seeing, interestingly enough, uh, 2025 was the highest enforcement year, um, in almost a decade, since 2016.

How, how did that come together and, and sort of, you know, what was-- Were you just sort of looking at the entire process and s- not seeing, you know, that need being fulfilled?

Well, that sounds interesting, but what does that have to do with oil and gas?

Yeah, absolutely.

So I basically started in research and decided that I liked kind of using my brain on environmental problems, but really wanted to get into the applied kind of space and really had a thought going into where...

Ultimately, I ended environmental consulting.

If you can make a big company like Shell even 1% more sustainable or more efficient, that's a huge impact.

And I liked working on kind of environmental problems, but really wanted to be more at the intersection of how do we take knowledge that we have and actually apply that to real world problems in energy, oil and gas, other industries to make sure that Frankly, my efforts weren't kind of just going into more research and instead could kind of apply into the real world.

And from consulting, it leads me into a company, Encamp, that co-founded, had been building for the last 10 years.

Is that right?

Well, what's the story behind NCAMP, the name?

Yeah, so my background is actually in ecology way back in the day.

Did that as a researcher, then went into corporate consulting, working with big energy companies on really their environmental compliance programs.

And when I was in consulting, saw The gap that really, you know, NCAMP has emerged to solve, which is a lot of the work actually in environmental is still done manually with people in spreadsheets, emails.

And if you're using consultants, it's hourly billing.

So really didn't see the alignment of how do we make this more efficient for everyone? predicated on building your time out.

As far as the name, so was a consultant, loved doing a bunch of backpacking, liked the environment.

For us to be part of it, there's three couples that go away and the three girls, they don't all know each other.

Their partners don't.
