Is tiger conservation working? The IUCN Green Status Assessment

And so as a thought experiment, if we were to ignore all financial constraints, what do you think is needed to see this sort of recovery?

It's intended to say if, you know, not unrealistic, and that's why the recovery score of the tiger is medium and not high or very high, because actually even what that means, the most likely outcome I mean, the most positive outcome, does not mean that tigers can be everywhere they occurred 100 years ago.

That representativeness that you said, like they could be in all regions, what happens with the green status is you divide the historic range, it's called indigenous range in the process, um everywhere that the tiger formerly occurred within historic times up into discrete spatial units and those spatial units in the case of the tiger they're 24 spatial units and they were um and so you try to capture all the unique ecological settings in which the species exists or exists so you have you know ammo tigers in northeast china and russia are very distinct from bengal tigers in south asia but then even within you know, those subspecific differences, you want it to capture really important ecological differences.

So, for example, we separated out the Shunduban mangroves from, you know, Himalayan forest and dry and moist, you know, South Asian forest.

How applicable are those lessons to the idea of reintroducing tigers to part of their former range in Asia?
BIG CATS: Lions, Tigers & Roars (Oh My!)

Every cat owner's dream when you get up early in the morning and step out of bed, and I don't know which is worse, warm fur ball vomit or a cold fur ball vomit because yeah, they've hawked up a fur ball.
