Generally speaking, my sense was that the 21st century Jewish cultural renaissance was happening organically, and it was happening for a number of different reasons.

So I think, you know, at the turn of the century, [chuckles] um, there was a generation of Jews, kind of our general age, um, who felt completely comfortable in their Americanism.

I think he, he would say he did, but as a kid, was hyper-conscious of his Jewish identity and the way it probably set him apart.
