My dad always says he used to look at the mountains.

If the mountains looked to be in your face, if they looked like they were really close to you, closer than normal, say, then there was bad weather coming.

If they had a dark colour to them, there was rain coming.

He would also look north to Cape Anguille shoreline, and there were signs within that that he would identify bad weather as well.
