They say, if you don't do this, we're walking out of here.

Well, actually, one of the things we do in our show is about a 14-minute medley of just about every female duet ever written.

And we put it together because so many people said, oh, you have to do this song.

Oh, you have to do this song and this song.

And we go, let's see if we can.

And so we try to do them all together.

It's actually quite humorous.

Yeah, then I'm

Tell me what it was like working with Shire and Mulpey.

Oh, it was the best.

It was the best.

And, you know, I was very young.

It was my first big role on Broadway.

And and actually how I got the show during Merrily, I was originally hired as a swing, meaning I understudied like 12 girls in the cast.

And then my agent, who I had just gotten, said they wanted me to audition.

So you didn't promote it for that purpose? It just kind of happened?

Take us through the timeline from Tuesday, from when you got to the ballpark until you stepped up to the mic.

Okay, so they ask the singers for the night games to come do a sound check at 5 o'clock.

And so I live in northern Westchester, and my husband and I drove in, and we got there late.

know just before five and then because there was so much happening on the field um jenna who is the person who's in charge of of the anthems and taking care of everyone we went right out on the field and it was there were so many people watching batting practice now i i actually sang god bless america uh earlier this season um for the seventh inning stretch which I do occasionally, and they like a really early sound check for that, but my God Bless America was the day after the Knicks won, and so it was a very late night for me, and so I said, can I skip the sound check this time? I wanted to do the sound check, not really because I need it, because I've sung the anthem probably 50 times over the years, But I wanted to, you know, I'm a huge fan.

So I wanted like, ooh, can I see batting practice? Is there anyone fun going to be on the field? And I didn't really see anyone then.

And then, so then I, what they do is they give you earbuds.

Huge delay, which you don't really get to practice much.

Your thoughts?

Right.

I had the album and the vocal selections.

So I auditioned, I got the part, and I remember at my audition Richard said, "You are perfect for a show I am writing about a pregnant college student." Long story short, Gallery was supposed to happen the same time as Merrily.

I had the Sophie's Choice of musical theater.

Do I stay, you know, Hal Prince said, "I'll put you in the chorus if you stay with the show." And it's like, do I do that? Everyone told me to take the lead role in this off-Broadway show, and then I followed my gut, and my gut told me to stay with Merrily, and then Gallery never happened.

It never opened.

But Richard remembered me from my audition, so that's how I got Baby.
