Lisa, can you help us understand the meaning and, and I guess the impact of redlining?
2:51
Redlining is a form of excluding certain neighborhoods or certain communities for different kinds of investments and in this case, financial investments.
3:03
And you can have different forms of redlining.
3:06
So you can have food redlining.
3:08
You can have insurance redlining.
3:10
You can have job redlining.
3:13
But in this context, I, I'm really focused on lending redlining.

Can you talk a little bit about the work that you lead at NFHA and some of the practical, legal, regulatory tools that are available to address this issue and perhaps what new tools we need?
18:20
So tell me about the kinds of things that are happening now that are the reason that both motivate you and consume work that you do.
18:29
Well, David, that's a great question.
18:31
And you're right, there is a lot happening now.
18:35
A lot of the work that we do is an attempt to address some of the systemic barriers that exist in our society.
18:45
People are often surprised to learn that we have had hundreds of years in which we have passed race-based, race-conscious laws we've implemented race-based and race-conscious policies throughout the centuries, really.
19:04
And those hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of race-based policies and practices help shape and formulate our landscape.
19:14
So for example, residential segregation, we are more segregated today than we were 100 years ago because of these unfair policies, many of them put in place by the federal government.

And tell me about what do we do? Like, what is the next right thing to do in these communities and as a nation?
