Lisa MonacoGUEST
I think I was about eight months in, nine months in to my role as an assistant US attorney.
Lisa MonacoGUEST
I was starting the second day of training to be an AUSA, doing what we called at the time in that office misdemeanor trial training, kind of boot camp for young prosecutors to learn how to try cases.
Lisa MonacoGUEST
Uh, and I had come into that job after spending time as a counsel to the Attorney General, who was, um, previously Attorney General Janet Reno.
Lisa MonacoGUEST
And I, unlike a lot of people probably at the time, had heard of Al-Qaeda, 'cause, of course, in that role working for Attorney General Reno, we had spent a good deal of time, um, tracking a number of plots, including the now famous Millennium plot.
Lisa MonacoGUEST
So Al-Qaeda was not a foreign word, uh, to me, but, uh, nonetheless, uh, my first thought when I first heard about the first plane hitting the towers, like I think probably everybody else, thought it was some type of accident.
