So maybe I'll back it up and sort of talk about the entire genome, because I think there's a lot of misunderstanding about what the non-coding genome is as well.

And then this other distinction that you're describing, coding versus non-coding.

So essentially, The coding genome is RNA that is the intermediate step between DNA and protein.

But we also have transcription of RNA genes that don't end up becoming a protein.

And so that is the class of genes and transcripts that are described as the non-coding genome.

And that non-coding genome can also be split up.
