Linda G. MillsGUEST
And that felt really important in a moment when I knew that my presidency could be consequential in a way that was essential in NYU's development and, and that was a real focus on a few things.

Linda G. MillsGUEST
One of them was science and technology, that none of the previous presidents and my predecessors had really focused on the fact that science and technology had completely reorganized not only the disciplines, but the ways in which our world operated, whether that was AI, whether that was quantum, whatever it was.

Linda G. MillsGUEST
And it's a kind of ironic development given that there was a provost who was a mathematician during that time.

Linda G. MillsGUEST
But what was clear to me was that we hadn't yet focused on science and technology in a way that we needed to.

Linda G. MillsGUEST
That didn't mean that we didn't have spectacular people at NYU who were experts in these fields, but we hadn't organized things in a way that really declared to the world that we are a science and technology powerhouse.
