uh who who sort of said jason we'd love there to be more young people in our church and for there to be growth but we've we've we've come to a settled conclusion that we like things the way they are and therefore we're just going to stick with it even though that means that we're going to get smaller and smaller and sometimes that could be everyone sometimes that could be one or two who who seem to sort of be wanting to resist the change or even sabotage the change um How do we navigate that? Linda?
1:16
I'm actually a little bit struck thinking that I think church history also has something to teach us here.
1:22
You know, I think back to one of the great changes in Christian history, the Reformation.
1:28
And I think it was quite, in some ways, it was slow.
1:31
And I think the reformers went at it in different ways.
1:34
But at the heart of it all really was the recovery of the Word of God and the power of the Word of God.
1:42
that really lit a fire in the hearts right from Wycliffe, through Luther, through Zwingli, Calvin, right on into the English Reformation.
2:24
within the church and you
11:54
Yeah.
11:55
I think that one of the things that I find personally encouraging is role models.
12:02
And it was striking in thinking about this podcast that I happened to be reading through 1 and 2 Chronicles.
12:08
And at the end of 1 Chronicles, King David is preparing for the temple to be built, which is a massive change for God's people.
12:17
And I just found it so striking the way that he prepared people for his son to build the temple and in 1 Chronicles 29 verse 3 it says in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures and as he gives his personal treasures he then calls the people to be willing to consecrate themselves and then the chronicler records the leaders of families the officers of the tribes the commanders of thousands they gave willingly And it just really struck me that actually good leaders lead by example.
12:52
And it comes first out of my heart's desire for change.
12:58
So I really resonate with Adrian, but just perhaps looking at it from a slightly different perspective, is that I think so much of the time there is a bit of an iron sharpening iron effect goes on.

And I guess just building on that, the question is, how do we help people deal with that kind of loss that change often means? Linda?
