What would you say is the current state of higher ed, and how will AI impact or influence how we teach and learn in the next decade?

Well, there is a whole confluence, uh, of, uh, you know, conditions that are in some ways a perfect storm, uh, that are coming together.

Uh, it's not like, uh, AI is, in my view, the disruptor.

Uh, it's accelerating the disruption, uh, that is and has been underway for, for decades now.

Uh, I think we believe here at ASU, and certainly I personally believe, uh, this is the moment where agility, uh, and the ability to be a-adaptive, uh, and innovative, uh, is, uh, an imperative.

Uh, it is largely, uh, innovate or die.

Um, to pick up on some of the themes that you were sharing in the intro, uh, I think we do that exceptionally well at ASU.

... do you think should be required?

Wow

... field work in India, uh, and field work back in Canada, which is my home, my home country.

After a while, you know, one of those great luxuries of being an academic, and you know it because at least in part you were in academic medicine for a while, um, you know, you get these amazing things called sabbaticals.

Like, what a brilliant human creation, and, and unfortunately, only academics [chuckles], at least as best as I know.

I guess I think in corporate, uh, IT you get these short sabbaticals.

But anyway, I had a sabbatical in 1993, Ed, um, and I, uh, have-- I had and have a special needs daughter.

And so we were trying at the time, uh, to figure out how best to f- uh, get some intervention for my daughter, who's on the autism spectrum.

So yeah, tell us about ASU and, uh, what drew you there and what makes you stay.
