So you, what, left TI, went to the mainland, done your schooling, end up in university to study law?

Yeah, I left, I left TI to go to, yeah, I went to Brizzy and did, back then there was an old TAFE there, you know, at Gardens, Kangaroo Point, yeah, so I was there with them and did justice, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice studies.

At that time, I wanted to get a job back in the Torres Strait, so to get a job, I thought, you know, on the boats, back in the Torres Strait, customs, I thought, because customs had boats, they're border force now, but used to be customs boats.

And so I went and did this diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice studies to be able to apply for customs.

But I was only very young.

I was like 17, turning 18.

I think I had my first legal drink at the Pineapple there at Kangaroo Point, down the road from that campus.

How can you make serious subjects into humor?

No one's really gonna listen otherwise, 'cause it's heavy stuff.

It's confronting, can make people feel defensive.

But the reality for me is that comedy is a light that can drive out darkness.

If you sit down and can connect just through laughter, that remind us of our humanity, and I think that's really important in times where there's chaos.

We need opportunities to bring people together because everything else is trying to rip us apart.

Is it like confrontational humor, but trying to disarm?

It's really just about showing perspectives from a different angle.
