did you have was there some kind of a mentor was there somebody who took you under the wing or helped you did you have any role models did you have backers how did your dad was a very very very prominent internationally recognized lawyer your mother is also a wonderful and very talented lady that did they have an opinion at the time I'm guessing they might have about you saying actually I'm going to leave Stanford and come out I did it twice

you know I did it to them twice I was on this kind of sciencey track which I think felt probably good to them and then I said you know what I'm gonna I'm dumping the theoretical physics and I'm gonna do philosophy which probably felt like a kind of a different you know from a career point of view maybe not as kind of parentally pleasurable and then I did it again.

I said, I'm going to leave this place where I have a scholarship.

They were probably just getting used to the idea that maybe this philosophy thing would work out.

But to be fair to both of them, they were really amazing and positive about it.

And they kind of said, well, you've done, you know, whatever you've done, you've sort of done it to a level and we sort of trust you.

And they were very supportive.

And I just wondered, what sort of inspired you to take on some of these really important, troubling topics?
