GENomics-AI: Are We Moving Too Fast?

Le CongGUEST
What we found that even though CRISPR itself is very low cost, very fast today, what is really hard and expensive is actually before and after.

Le CongGUEST
Before meaning, for example, I'm studying cancer, which is actually one of our collaboration project.

Le CongGUEST
And what they want to do is to specifically target some of the genes that are mutated in lung cancer patients.

Le CongGUEST
But then the problem is there are many genes, right? And every gene in the human genome has over sometimes 30,000 bases.

And if a patient is missing, um, a key gene or have a mutation that inactivated the gene, if we can use, um, a recombinase, right, to essentially recombine a donor DNA into the genome, then you can give the patient or give the target cell a fresh, correct, new copy of a gene, uh, as sort of a, you know, cure almost, right, for any, you know, errors or loss of function, um, in genetic diseases.

Le CongGUEST
So we really thought, what if we have a Cre that can be targeted to anywhere in the genome versus classically, as we all know, Cre recombinase have a single sequence that it will work.

Le CongGUEST
Of course, can, can be engineered a little bit, but essentially it's a very single site recombination protein.
