Do you want to start at the beginning or do you want to work our way back? Which way would you like to start?
2:06
Well, first of all, I'd like to tell you, doing some of my research, I found out that there are 350,000 cold cases in the past 10 years.
2:24
And that is an outstanding amount.
2:28
And they have now started, the police departments have now started, they have actually started making an actual commitment and divvying up so many officers to look into these cold cases, which I think is an excellent thing to do.
2:51
But they're running into problems because most of the evidence during these cold cases have been misplaced or wasn't picked up when they did the investigation to go on.
3:06
My books are all about cult cases.
3:11
Some of the information is true, and a lot of it is generated by my mind.

Did you get shot as a cop?
10:36
Yeah.
10:38
And, and a lot of stuff made me really sick, and when I would question my boss or my s- superior, he'd say, "Don't mess with it.
10:50
Just leave it alone.
10:51
It, it's going to cold storage.
10:53
There's nothing we can do about it." A- and that really made me angry, and I wanted to, I wanted to fight back, but it's like you can't argue with the boss.
11:05
The boss said, "That's the way it is.

What about that?
5:12
So what do you think is a helpful way for parents to think about their own unique child's language development journey?
5:19
Yeah.
5:20
I love this question because having a framework can really shift how you see your child's communication, so I'm gonna give you a couple of different frameworks, um, because I think they're all really valuable.
5:30
Uh, I know you have a framework that looks at all of neurodevelopment as a tree, but I also encourage parents to think about communication as a tree, maybe a smaller one [laughs] than a full neurodevelopmental tree.
5:42
But at the foundation or its roots of the communication are regulation and connection.
5:48
Can the child engage, feel safe, share attention with another person? And from there, we build into it intentional communication in the trunk, which may be through gestures, through sounds, through words, through repeated phrases, through AAC.
6:01
And then over time, language becomes more flexible, and we move into those branches that can, can move a little bit more and be social and have some more complexity to them.

So what is it? How is it different from the way language is, uh, typically thought about?
