And Lars Regger gave me probably one of the most interesting definitions I heard across this event.
10:38
A chiplet is the idea to have one chip, you know, these little black squares, and you're putting different pieces of silicon into that.
10:46
So you have a digital compute island, you have an analog IO island, you have maybe a memory piece and so on.
10:54
So you put different pieces chips in there and you don't manufacture them as one big silicon piece because they are on different recipes okay the digital transistors can be ultra ultra small analog transistors have to be ultra ultra precise and then and the precision degrades by shrinking so you have often very big transistors for battery cell management Voltage measurement.
11:21
Okay.
11:21
And for AI compute, you have super tiny transistors.
11:25
Now, different recipes, different way of manufacturing that.

So what do you mean, actually? So very honestly, that was a
3:53
more or less defensive sentence in 2018.
3:55
A journalist approached me and said, hey, Lars, how long will NXP still exist? And I was like, what? So we are 60% in automotive with our revenue.
4:03
And then the journalist explained to me, yeah, you know, NVIDIA is taking all of that silicon into one chip, into one big brain, and then no one needs you and your competition anymore.
4:15
And I was like, oh, wow, there might be a total misconception in how to build functional, safe, robotized physical AI architectures.
4:23
So I said, hey, A car is as much a brain on wheels as you, human, are a brain on shoes.
4:30
So meaning there is an entire body in between.

9:31
When you cast your mind back to 2008, could you foresee that happening?
9:35
No.
9:36
So I would say, I would love to say it was all strategic wisdom.
9:43
It was not as so often.
9:44
But it was also not sitting on our hands and wait what is happening from the outside world.
9:49
I mean, there was this dream and the view of what can this company really do with its assets? No one at that time was saying we need to be somewhere in the cloud.
9:58
We need to do big storage, big compute.
