For a layperson, if we're trying to understand fascist architecture, are there characteristics, if I'm looking at something, what are the fascist stylistic characteristics that I can determine by simply looking at it visually?

There are all these qualities, a lot of them are very much aligned with modernism and we see that all over the place and that's an aesthetic look that has been associated and then disassociated and is still fundamentally associated with fascism.
