TGL EP 298 - When is Your Gear Holding You Back?
16:08

Kyle McNabbGUEST
And I think it's 'cause the polymer flexes and you get kind of a longer, slower, uh, kind of energy impulse.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
The steel f- the steel doesn't move as much, but it smacks into your hand every single time you pull the trigger.

TGL EP 298 - How to Know When You're the Exception to the Rule
7:25
7:35

Kyle McNabbGUEST
We played around with different formats and we really, um, you know, the, the four blocks a day was really kind of, that was kind of a lot and switching really quickly.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
And then, uh, this last year where we only had two squads, the squads got a little big, and on the base sizes it was a bit much to handle.

When does there get to be a point where there's too many drills? Or is there such a thing?

Kyle McNabbGUEST
I think if you are... churning through a drill and giving one or two reps i don't mean uh like cycles through the relay i mean you know uh you've got a four target array and you shoot that array one time you have you know pop a new mag in the gun you shoot that target that array again reload it or reset it move on to the next set of shooters and they get one crack at it and you're moving on When it feels like you're churning through drills without really getting a lot of reps on them, I think it's time to condense the number of drills you're using and get more reps on them.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
It cuts down on setup time and also I think it's easier to assess figure out what you're supposed to assess what is i'm supposed to learn out of this kind of you get a few more data points you know it's like like the typical way we would um tell somebody to train on their own you know set up a drill don't paste it every time don't don't shoot it once and paste it or score it don't bother doing hit factor just shoot it scored an aggregate four or five runs however many magazines you have on your belt that sort of thing And then let's reset it when you're just cranking through drills and you're not allowing your students to get multiple reps on that drill just so you can get to the next one.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
I think that's probably when you have too many, especially if there's not a lot of variation between them.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
when it's difficult to recall, Hey, remember that one drill we did? No, no, not that one.

TGL EP 291 - A New Drill and Optic Preferences Revisited

Kyle McNabbGUEST
So I am in a text thread with a bunch of guys and some folks might know Eric Shawl.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
I can't remember exactly where he placed at Carry Optics last year, but I'm pretty sure he's on the Super Squad this year.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
So anyway, we were having a discussion and he happened to be on the range, so he posted a like a little train up that he does.

So going into this, were you nervous? Because this is I think this is your was this your first time doing a non like at your department class?

Kyle McNabbGUEST
kind of packing my Pelican and going on the road and being like, Hey, I think I have something to offer these other people.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
I think anybody that says they're not their first time out, it's probably delusional or lying or both, but yeah, like I've been teaching at my place long enough, kind of where I work that I either have a reputation for being knowing what i'm talking about and being able to do all the things i say i can do so i kind of have that credibility established or the new people coming in are so green that like to be honest by virtue of being an instructor you have kind of instant credibility anyway because you're you're in charge you're the person you're the you're the the guru or whatever.

Kyle McNabbGUEST
So like the, just when you're in a, in a, an academy class, most people like they automatically just buy into whatever the instructor says based on virtue of the, of the relationship.
