18:36
Yeah.
18:38
Yeah.
18:38
And that was the other thing too.
18:39
I was like – I kind of realized early on if I'm going to shoot a video for this, which I always wanted to do because so many – so much of it is like – um you know like the optics both like in how he created it and i wanted to make this video so um i realized pretty early on i was like you know again i can't shoot this in the kardashians backyard i gotta go like i have to go to africa and do it and it was kind of the thing of like if paul simon could go and do it i can't half-ass it and you know I was like I have to put sort of my money where my mouth is really like if I'm gonna do this and also part of what I'm parodying so I could talk a little bit about that in a sec but the other the other thing is like I don't think I've ever done more research for a song.
19:30
And like my wife keeps saying, it's like you were studying for a test that no one was ever going to give you.
19:35
But I like I just like really, really just hunkered down.
19:41
And I was like, if I'm going to parody the ignorance of.

31 MINS LATER

50:34
Yeah, they're like, oh, here
76:07
He should have pursued her on his tractor, I think was the whole point.
76:09
All right.
76:10
I Should Have Tracked Her.
76:11
Yeah, yeah.
76:11
All right.
76:13
All right.
76:18
She was heading down the road Saw her from behind I knew that she wasn't one I had to have her I had to know that she was coming home with me But I need to know what she's doing after I shouldn't have let her go

Okay,
Andrew Gill

26:17
How did you did you have a local casting agent or did you how did you find people to be in the video? And did you have an animal wrangler, a giraffe dude or what?
26:27
Yeah, so we had a core American team, which, by the way, was a skeleton crew.
26:38
It was me, the producer and director that I've worked with Forever, they're the same guys that did Planet of the Base.
26:46
And then my brother.
26:46
And that was all the Americans that went.
26:48
And then we had a South African producer and then a Swazi producer in Eswatini.
26:53
So they helped coordinate all that.

10 MINS LATER

36:49
that you could explain why
Andrew Gill
Andrew GillPANELIST
7:36
So, yeah, where did it start?
7:38
It probably all started...
7:41
My love of music, I think, just originated...
7:44
Really, the first music I remember really loving and actively choosing to listen to is genuinely just listening to classic rock radio growing up.
7:55
Just kind of, you know, the Bostons and the Stairway to Heavens and all that stuff.
8:01
But, you know, when you're in fourth grade, it's all new.
8:04
So...

26:17
How did you did you have a local casting agent or did you how did you find people to be in the video? And did you have an animal wrangler, a giraffe dude or what?
6:38
... or, uh, is that in your world? Is that something you humor?
6:40
I would love...
6:42
You know, I, I was always kind of hesitant to do it just because the past few years I've just been focusing on just, like, kind of writing songs that can exist outside of a narrative.
6:53
And then, like, as I've built this show, so, like, the new version of the live show, I kinda have the...
6:59
And the album, too, has this, like, sort of through line of, like, it's framed as, like, you're going to, like, a seminar on music history.

46 MINS LATER

52:40
Yeah.
52:41
Um, and so, like, literally the audition tape was like, "I'm looking a, for a guy to play this," and so literally the producer, uh, he sent me a v-...
52:53
U- I explained the concept to everyone and, like, it was like, "I'm an annoying Amer- I'm an annoying American tourist, you're trying to fix your car, and you're telling me to go away." And in this video he pretty much did he, what he did in the f- official music video.
3:16
Have you been on Quora before?
3:17
Yeah, so it's interesting, like, I have, and I've never quite been able to navigate it.
3:23
And tell me I'm wrong.
3:24
Maybe I'm just a moron.
3:25
But obviously, I have posed a question online, and sometimes Google or whatever does bring me to Quora.
3:31
Am I wrong in that you see the question posed, you get a description of the question, and then it's, like, nine sponsored other questions-

6 MINS LATER

9:18
Mm-hmm.
9:18
[laughs] Like, uh, like especially like basic fundamental details about like where I'm from or where I went to school or whatever.
1:44
Right
1:45
... you know, seeking wisdom in Africa, I can't then be, or as much as possible, I don't wanna be guilty of the same things that this par- ...
1:55
Uh, uh, there's an inherent ignorance that I'll always have just being an American guy going there, but as much as possible, I tried to do as much research as I possibly could before I undertook this trip.
2:09
Um, and so yeah, the, the trip, uh, we went to...
2:12
We shot in two locations.
2:13
So we shot in South Africa, and so everything with like animals and landscape we shot, um, in this like, uh, game reserve that was like an hour and a half north of Cape Town.
2:26
Um, and so, and then everything with the choir and the Mr. Jambo character, we actually shot that in, the country's called Eswatini.

8 MINS LATER

10:47
[laughs]
27:11
talk all right good deal good deal uh steve zaragoza titillated let's go to kyle gordon kyle what did you think of sock monkey mike
27:22
yeah i think we're off to a fantastic start he's a physically stunning beauty um just took my breath away the second i saw him uh so i love i love that right off the bat um uh yeah the mom talk is great um uh uh you know i was a fan of uh yo mama back in the day and so that kind of that kind of that kind of nasty locker room talk that's all always really um what gets me going um but as you mentioned it does seem like you guys have a history So the one mark I will say against him is if I can infer from the relationship you have, it seems like you're really pushing him to overcome his inhibitions.
27:59
And as you noted right at the end, you know, he really should have denigrated this person based on their immutable characteristics and called them a bitch.
28:07
I would have loved to see that.
28:08
So that's the one mark I'll take away from him.

9 MINS LATER

Bobby BeansackAUDIENCE
37:20
No puke.
37:20
Understood.
37:23
Yeah, um, uh, once again, um, just blown away.
speaker_16PANELIST
17:49
Wow, that sounds difficult.
17:52
Honestly, it's been kinda nice.
17:55
I used to work this really busy job and was always saying things like, "I wish I could just move to a deserted island," or, "Ugh, I wouldn't have to send all these emails if I lived on a deserted island." And now look, I got my wish.
18:08
It's been great having time to think and reflect and have long meandering discussions with Stick.
18:14
But now I'm ready to go home.
18:16
Gotta say, I really miss toilets.
speaker_0VOICE_ACTOR
21:54
I used to just be a stick, but now I'm a stick with a friend, and I can't let you take that away from me.
22:01
Stick, even though I've been stranded on an island for three years with nothing but a rock to sleep on, these have been the best three years of my life because I had a great friend to enjoy them with.
