Do you want to speak to that a little bit?
17:12
Yeah.
17:13
So I think the, I always say the great thing about being an author is that if you've got things that you are personally struggling with as ideas, you can put them in a book and it's better than therapy.
17:24
So one of the things that I had constantly sort of struggled with as part of the queer community is the idea that you don't owe anyone your queerness as a statement.
17:35
And in a very real sense, of course we don't, you know, like we don't owe anybody any part of ourselves.
17:42
But at the same time, from a political point of view, I always thought, what an odd statement, because if I don't owe anybody that, how are we going to ever change anything, right? If nobody comes out, if nobody is their messy selves, how do we do this? Surely I owe it to my community.
17:59
I owe it to the people who came before me, to the people who will come after me, to be a role model of sorts, you and say, hello, I'm queer, I'm here, that's it, right? Even if you're just taking up space as a number, right? And so I gave this idea to Matt, this sense of he has a very strong sense of that community feeling that he owes it to himself, to be honest, but also to all of the queer people who came before him, who fought for the rights for him to be able to exist as an out gay man, right? and for all of the younger generation who will come after him to try to build them a better world.

Do you want to talk about that as something that is a factor in a lot of these players' lives?
