Bringing Texas together in Waco.

If you attended one of the county judges' and commissioners' regional conferences this year, you already know what is waiting for us in Waco.

You have experienced education, the exchange of ideas, and perhaps most importantly, the fellowship that happens when county officials come together.

Now it's time to bring all of our regional associations together for the 2026 County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas State Conference, October 5th through the 8th in Waco.

I have had the privilege of attending the West, South, and North and East Association conferences this year, and each one has reminded me of what makes our associations so special.

Every region has its unique challenges and perspectives.

Thank you for listening in.

County government is often associated with budgets, roads, elections, and public safety.

While these responsibilities are essential, effective county leadership extends far beyond the walls of the courthouse.

Commissioner court members and other local officials have a unique opportunity to influence the direction of their communities through relationships, integrity, and a commitment to service.

Leadership is not defined solely by title or elected position.

True leadership is the ability to bring people together around a common purpose and inspire confidence in the future.

County officials are often among the most visible leaders in the communities, and residents look to them not only for decisions, but also for examples of character and stewardship.

Unless, of course, you consider spreadsheets and line items your ideas of a good time.

And while we may joke about the fun of budgeting, the truth is it remains one of the most important responsibilities we carry as public servants.

Budgeting is where priorities take shape.
