I like nitty gritty sort of things, so that is kind of what goes into it for me, at least, what I've noticed for us.

Yeah, I think that's the fun part about our show, is that we're all so different in terms of GM'ing, but also because we're such good friends as well, the chemistry there is super fun.

And I know each of us kind of go about picking a system for each season differently.

I know for me, I sometimes will start with the vibe or the kind of story I wanna tell and seeing what system I want it to work with it.

And so, like, for my season, I really wanted to tell some kind of, like, Gotham-esque noir faction-y sort of story.

And so I was like, well, what kind of systems work for that kind of vibe that I wanted? And I'd heard a lot about Blades in the Dark before, and I was like, well, I've always wanted to try Blades in the Dark.

And then I looked into Blades in the Dark and I was like, oh, I kinda love Blades in the Dark.

Y- I can't even talk, so... [laughs]

How you guys doing?

Okay, so we're doing great.

We're in Carytown, Richmond, Virginia, a little shopping district, and we figured we'd start outside.

Um, show you what it looks like down here.

There's tons of really awesome little restaurants.

Um, little theater down there where we do a lot of our videos and whatnot.

We've got an awesome coffee shop right next door.

[laughs]

... or a couple days in a row? You know, because that's not there, is that going to now change your mindset to one, again, of, um, frustration and control, and then that's how you're gonna make your decisions? Or, you know, are you truly in this place where you can still be confident that this is just a fluctuation? Like, how does that re- how do you keep that reward system balanced when you're saying, "I still use the scale as a reward," but there's gonna be many days where it's not going to give you that feeling?

I honestly think with, um-If you want to finally let go of that attachment to the scale and having it affect your day for good, you absolutely have to try to work your way out of that, the scale, the number on the scale is my reward mentality.

Because you're constantly going to be chained to it and looking at it for approval, looking at it to s- to state your worth for you.

You need to be able to find that from within yourself versus trying to get that from a scale and a number, because you're gonna be chained to that scale for the rest of your life if you can't let that go.

That's, like, the thing you need to work on.

It's interesting, somebody, um, in the weight loss group this morning said something about accountability, um, too, about how they had done something with a personal trainer and then a nutritionist or whatever, like done something else prior last year.

Mm-hmm.

Somebody else having to be that carrot that's being dangled that's keeping it doing it, and trying to figure out what we need to do to get ourselves in the mindset and that head space where I'm doing this for me because of me, and you don't need to be accountable to anybody else for it.

You know, the funny thing is, we fit right in.

I j- I fit right in with the island of misfits.

Um, my husband and I went to dinner with Matt and Will and Jen, um, when they offered me the job, and I said I wanted to think about it, and I got in the car, and my husband looked at me, and he goes, "You are dumb if you don't jump right now."

[laughs]

So I jumped, and it was the people.

Um, I didn't know anything about RV black tank treatments or anything, but it was really, I jumped because of the people, and I've never looked back.

It's been the best journey.

[laughs]

Ran, uh, Ran Abuki wakes up, uh, in a room, uh, with no memories and a notebook.

Uh, the only thing she knows, because it is written in the book, is that she is searching for her missing girlfriend, uh, An Sakura, and that she has schizophrenia and is currently unmedicated.

Uh, she then gets out and finds out she's in a school with a bunch of other girls who are stuck in a, not a time loop, but they have a killing game that they do as, like, schoolwork in this weird limbo they're trapped in where they kill each other and try to get away with it.

Um, and upon discovering the culprit, uh, the dead are resurrected, and this freaks Ran the fuck out.

Uh, and she discovers her girlfriend is there also and has to figure out how to get her out.

Bye-bye.

... um, especially, even before we knew what was happening, because he was just spending money on all of these things, and then I wouldn't catch it until way down the line.

I'd ask him about it, not accusatory, but just, "Hey, you know, I wanna know, did you do this transaction? If you did, great.

I just wanna make sure it's not fraudulent, and I have to call the bank." And he would sit there and look like a deer in headlights and just staring off, and he, he, he never, he never could answer it.

And I'm like, "What is go-" Wow, that was, that was so difficult.

I was frustrated.

I was nervous.

Mm.

[gentle music] Without realizing it, Chloe has been sharing her deepest anxieties with a woman who'd had a secret relationship with her father, a woman who'd had his baby, abandoned it, and never told a soul.

She just kept saying she felt violated.

That's the word that she kept using, and she were angry because she'd trusted Jennifer.

And not only that, the fact that Dad had allowed that to happen, so that meant that, really, did he care about her at all? What more important to him, keeping his secrets covered up or putting his daughter in a situation that s- she shouldn't have been in? Having this woman that he'd had an affair with counseling her.

So I think it kinda shook her because obviously she trusted my dad, and she trusted Jennifer.

It's not real.

It was my biggest fear, and it ended up happening, and it was the worst thing that could have happened.

And I think, I think I'll always be angry, um, because you're constantly thinking, "Could it have ended differently had things been different?"

So you have to be accompanied on these visits out, uh, Kim, do you?

Um, when we have the babies, yes.

It's, it's rather difficult to imagine that a woman would do something against a child.

Oh, yeah.

For me, it's, it's hard for me to fathom that a mother or any woman would be able to do that to a child, but it, it happens, and there's actually women in this prison that have hurt their children.

She calls her eldest daughter, Kim.

Whenever I get a phone call, I instantly know there's something wrong.

If it's not a text, I'm like, right, what the hell's going on here? So I answer the phone.

I'm like, "Hello?" And she says, "Do you know as well?" I'm like, "What?" "Do you know?" So I'm like, "Know what?"

The counseling has often been the best way, the only way, of coping during some of her darkest moments of despair and depression.

You know like the alarms that old people have on the doors? There were stages where we had alarms so that if she got up at night and opened that door, we'd hear it, so we'd get up.

It starts getting written up as like a big meme, uh, essentially by places like Vice that do an article on it.

"Went to see this movie on Friday.

I wanted to cringe when my husband said she's pretty.

He can't see that they're both trans." "How do you and your husband broach this topic?" "He thinks I'm nuts." "[sighs] Well, that sucks.

I'm on husband number three, and I finally got one with an open mind." "Joy is on her third husband because she cannot stop transvestigating." "Testosterone can do some amazing things." "Still a girl." "I was having a really hard time seeing anything even kind of manly about Marilyn Monroe, and suddenly it was like bam!"

I would prefer you to read it, yeah, 'cause I don't really wanna read it.

My question's around the underdog mindset.

Um, so at what point do you feel that the underdog mindset becomes more of a liability rather than a advantage?

So typically-

What was the beef of the people that were so viciously coming after you?

We provide, uh, transparency and accountability in our county executive committee, and they wanted to get rid of us.

They do not want oversight on the CEC.

So they spent a lot of money to try and take us out, and they failed.

How did you guys then pull off 65/35 wins?

wins?Well, I wrote a letter to my constituents, and I put it in a precinct packet with my preferred candidates.

And in that letter, I explained exactly what was going on in Montgomery County, and I delivered it to over 1,000 homes myself.

So we block walked-
