I think I want to talk about this in two ways.

I want to talk about this both kind of an individual perspective of someone who has a very clear learning goal and reasons for that.

And then also from a pedagogical goal about what maybe, or an ethical goal about what should be done in larger stretches of working with multiple people at the same time in a classroom or building an app or those sorts of things.

So I recognize that there are cases, for example, we have immigration is a very political issue in the United States right now.

And so accent marking someone's identity can be a real world issue that can lead to major severe outcomes, right? And so I don't want to say that anyone shouldn't strive to sound however they want to sound.

But I do think as someone who's generally teaching teachers or teaching students of a language or thinking about designing interventions for that, the primary goal probably is most likely just being an effective communicator.
