When did you first notice your interest in stock cars and modifying automobiles for the racing world and also short racing? Maybe you can tell us what that is as well.

October 7th, 1951.

After church one Sunday, my mother and father and I had been encouraged to go to an event in Stockton, California.

It was a 100-mile stock car race.

Brand new cars.

I had no idea what it was all about, but the garage and gas station in Walnut Creek, California, that I would deliver my last newspaper to as a paperboy, had race cars, and one day a brand spanking new car showed up at the garage, and it had been a marshal department or sheriff's department car, and it had been flipped, rolled over, and the top was caved in.

It was brand new.
