How does that feel? How does it feel running against a fellow Republican like that?
22:33
Well, it's unfortunate.
22:34
Gavin Newsom and his colleagues, uh, wanted to, uh, eliminate Republicans here in the state of California.
22:39
We're only a small fraction now, uh, with the eight members we have, and they're, they're gonna try to cut us down to five or six, when you have 52 members of Congress, uh, from California.
22:50
S- And, and about 40% of the vote is Republican or conservative.
22:54
So, uh, it's unfortunate, but this district, uh, 70% of it I represent, uh, presently.
23:01
Uh, and, uh, I, uh, I am in a position on, as, as chair of defense appropriations to do things, uh, that helps our national security.
26:00
Please explain to me what the Democrats' position on affordability is other than Medicare for All.
22:29

20:30
Congressman.
20:31
Absolutely.
20:32
After this last election, we lost two of our campaigns, one to Up in Northern California, John Duarte lost by less than 200 votes.
20:45
And then Michelle Steele, who lost by less than 700 votes.
20:49
And we knew that we had a problem.
20:51
You know, we're the Wild West of election law here in California.
20:54
Everything goes.

7 MINS LATER

27:47
And so the next question is, what happens? First question is, is the polling showing that this would actually pass? If it passes, what sort of enforcement mechanisms at the polling centers are in place to make sure that election workers are doing their job and checking IDs?
22:43
Uh, how much will this help, as long as all those other proposals are in play, and is there any hope of maybe overturning those through initiatives, or, or how should we look at it, big picture?
22:54
Well, you're right on all of that.
22:55
Uh, this is the first step, is to get this voter ID done.
22:59
That's a big step.
23:01
You're right.
23:01
That's why we want to get 1,200,000 signatures, to make sure that there's no question, that we can verify 873,000 signatures to make sure this is on the ballot.
23:11
It's not gonna fix every problem, but it's a big step forward for the state of California.

31:52
Did you fund two submarines for the Virginia tax this year or just one and a half?
31:57
We, we, uh, we fund a Columbia submarine and we, obviously, we fund the, the Virginia, two Virginia class submarines.
32:04
The problem we're having is, is, uh, Electric Boat meeting, uh, their, uh, their schedules.
32:10
Uh, they're having a problem with the work force.
32:12
We've put some money in the bill to, uh, augment the compensation for the work force.
32:17
Obviously, inflation is, uh, hitting them also, uh, but, uh, we need to get these, uh, we need to get these ships.
32:26
We also have money in for some, uh, destroyers, uh, and, uh, some other, uh, ships of the line, about six battleships.
33:20
What do you think?
24:26
Congressman, what's it do for defense spending for six months?
24:31
Well, I'll be honest with you.
24:33
I don't like CRs.
24:34
I don't think you like CRs.
24:36
It doesn't give the flexibility to the secretary you would like to have.
24:39
But we gave a lot of anomalies and transfer authority, significant transfer authority.
24:45
We kicked it up to $8 billion to give him maximum flexibility because we're operating a year-long CR.
27:51
Is that the way it's going, Ken Calvert?
