Kesa says singing the anthem is a way to give back, and a way to represent veterans and active military, mothers, women of color, and so many more.

What I try to give is, you know, 90 seconds of unity.

You know, we just celebrated Memorial Day and I've lost a lot of friends who are family that I met in the service.

And I look in the crowd and you see every bit of what makes America great.

And so I try to deliver that in the best way I can.

For the veterans that see me still performing in uniform, I hope that they see someone who sees them, right? That recognizes the service that they gave, the sacrifices.

And so that's why I still do it in uniform.
