After the fishing industry closure decimated the area, the family decided to diversify, calling the place Dark Tickle, after the Newfie name given to the nearby narrow point where the water goes between two landmasses, and began foraging Newfoundland berries, partridge, cloud, squash and blue, using them to make jams and preserves, which they are perhaps most famous for.
