And I'm not going to go, you know... delve into what you were going through but i am going to ask you about the meditation that comes because you're doing this for a reason and so that must have really hit you hard
14:22
so for me it was it became quite as you say a meditative process i was often with other people but you still get those spaces when you're with other people and you're just sort of listening to the sound of your paddles in the water or the of the water around you or the seabirds or whatever else And it does take a long time to get places.
14:41
So you're looking out, you can see the headland in front of you.
14:44
It may take you two hours to get there.
14:47
You obviously can't have a phone in your hands because you're travelling.
14:50
So you're off social media, you're off any kind of contact other than what's really happening in that moment.
14:57
Sometimes you have to be really thoughtful on, you know, what's the sea doing? I don't want to fall in.
19:32
How did you write this?
34:31
Tell us a bit more about what's going on with that.
34:34
Yeah, so we launched the strategy.
34:36
It'll be coming up to a year in September.
34:39
And we've made a lot of really good progress.
34:41
I think what's important to say is that the industry wasn't standing still before we had our strategy.
34:46
There was lots of really good work going on across all of the different sort of stakeholders.
34:51
But a lot of those initiatives are sort of happening in isolation.
36:49
And Racing Resilient is still very much in its infancy, just 11 months in, but who and how has it helped people to date?
32:04
I caught up with her to ask how it felt to take on a challenge she never intended to do.
32:10
My brother Toby set out to sea kayak in all areas of the shipping forecast.
32:15
There are 31 sea areas.
32:17
This is the UK's maritime shipping forecast, so weather forecast really.
32:22
And I guess most people know it because of how it comes across on the radio and perhaps don't know the meaning behind the places or anything about any of the places.
32:31
So Toby set off to explore these places in a sea kayak.
32:34
Luckily, he didn't set any kind of limits on it in terms of needing to do entire coastlines or anything like that.

5 MINS LATER

38:01
What was the biggest gift, you think, that Toby's left you then with this?
3:15
[laughs] Uh, yeah, and what do you think it was about kayaking that gave him that sense of happiness?
3:23
Well, if you'd have asked me that before I'd started, I'd, uh, it'd take me a while to answer, but I can tell you that it's a pretty special place.
3:30
You're on the water, in a small boat, looking back at the land.
3:34
Sometimes that land is, is rugged coasts and something that, really awe-inspiring.
3:40
A lot of west of Ireland is like that.
3:42
But sometimes it's sort of flat and more pensive, maybe like your east coast.
3:46
Um, but it's always beautiful, and it always gives you this space to think and to feel in the moment.

7 MINS LATER

10:54
Well, what do you think? I know you set out to honor, you know, Toby and Marcus, uh, but what did you learn from going on this adventure yourself?
20:11
Yes, yes.
20:13
Okay.
20:14
So I started in January, and I just went out with my aunt here in the Costa Brava.
20:18
I live in Barcelona, so it's a little bit warmer, and you can definitely paddle in January.
20:22
In fact, it's one of the best times.
20:25
And we just went out.
20:26
She showed me some of the basic stroke skills, and that was just kind of a start, just getting used to it.

19 MINS LATER

39:42
Mm-hmm.
