And so when you first like see yourself as a character, like what goes through your mind and also like finding the right tone, because I think that character, you know, like the look and everything, it could be like played for comedy.

Yeah, definitely.

I was sort of obsessed with her right off the bat.

She is charismatic.

She is dangerous.

She is vulnerable.

She is charming.

Yeah.

And being in this film, what was it like for you?

Oh, I was just so immediately attached to, to Vanna.

And also Daniel is just a wonderful, uh, mood setter, uh, you know, on set.

It, it was really a pleasure working with him.

And Vanna was just so special to me, such a weird, wacky character, so filled with, uh, volatility and vulnerability.

And just the look, the outfit, like, putting all that together was so much fun.

And it's like Lou, y- Lou said before, you know, uh, to look in the mirror and see somebody completely different is just such a, a thrill, and it makes the job so much easier.

Carla, w- what a great scene partner.

And then for the script to be so original and keep moving in surprise ways, and then for me to be able to play these other type of monstrous characters was so fun.

I think for me, when I first got the material, it was just a few pages for Vonna for an audition.

And I did not care what the rest of this movie was like.

I was just like, she is rad and I love her.

And she's crazy and she's vulnerable and she's dangerous and she's funny and she's manic and she's kind of everything I look for.

in a character um and then you add on yes this wild unpredictable roller coaster of a story and all these other fully fleshed out characters who you are kind of falling in love with but don't know if you should because you kind of have a feeling that they're gonna freak out and do something horrific at any moment but you're not sure like how or what or when um it kind of had everything for me so yeah i was i was enthralled from the beginning

I mean, it's the same thing.

I listened to it before because I kind of Googled, like, what is this? I knew it was something like a podcast, and I ended up down, like, a Reddit rabbit hole of people talking about it.

It's worth telling a, the story of that, right? And so yeah, I think that's kind of why it's endured is people still connect to that.

Yeah, I think, uh, just seeing the fans over the years, meeting them and talking to them, the amount of queer youth, trans youth, non-binary youth, people who, uh, were outcasts, people who were, uh, you know, bullied, and people who formed, like, one really strong relationship that was kind of the foundation of their sanity through their youth, um, this really spoke to them.

And it, it, it was the same for Emily and I when we read it and when we were shooting it is that we hadn't seen people like us reflected back in the media at that time.

And to have that really meant something to us and it really meant something to a lot of people, which, you know, continues to build and now, like, I was at a screening, uh, of it last fall and there was just a lineup of, like, yo- young queer kids after who were just telling me how much it meant to them.

And like 17 years old.

I was like, "Holy shit," like, "this is incredible." [laughs] Like, it's really still, it's really still hitting the right way, and it, like, there's nothing that I could be more grateful for than that.

Yeah, and it wasn't until years, like literal years later that, like, kids on the street would stop me and, and talk about it.
