What, what's the situation on the ground right now?
0:47
So right now the situation is really overwhelming, to be quite honest with you.
0:51
We have, um, a treatment center in a place called Mongwalu, which is really the true epicenter even for Ituri in terms of the outbreak, and every day we have to add more beds to the treatment center because we're just getting so many admissions from, from the community, um, in terms of cases.
1:11
And the same goes for our treatment center here in Bunia as well, the capital of Ituri.
1:16
It's at 100% capacity every day, and it feels like you work your entire sort of day off just to be able to increase your bed capacity enough to take what patients will be admitted during the day.

How are things going on that front now, Kate?
2:51
For our team in Mongwalu, where we assume at the moment this, uh, this outbreak started, it's actually been really good in the last little while.
3:02
That's why we see also the numbers increasing.
25:02
She's been keeping an audio diary of her experiences.
25:07
Landed in Addis and now just boarded the flight to Kinshasa.
25:14
It is super hot, super crowded.
25:18
Starting to get more real now and super looking forward to being able to meet the rest of the team and getting past the travel stage to the actual doing stage.
25:31
Okay, so I meant to do this last night, but, uh, got back from Mongwalu, which has significant transmission, at about six PM.
25:42
Uh, spent the day there at the treatment center.
25:46
The team are doing an amazing job.
34:56
And so just
34:56
maintaining the connection, thinking of yourselves as more of a unit.
35:02
And when one person is pulling away, that's where it's hard.
35:05
I mean, finding that shared time.
35:09
I think is very important, but also the appreciation.
35:14
I think that women, especially probably feel underappreciated, but a lot of men do too.
35:20
And when we look at, I know we're not really probably have time to even talk about sexual function and how sexual intimacy.
38:22
And I was like,
5:24
Right, right, right.
5:26
And I feel like that this, that when we have these transformations, because you have these hormonal transformations that change what's going on in your brain, we look at changes in estrogen which inform the, the dopamine, the serotonin, the, all those things.
5:41
We are going through a time of becoming that's very dramatic, akin only to puberty, and if you had to try to get married at 14 or 15, which some people did, and you're in the midst of all this change-And come out the other side and say, "Ah, is this the person I want to be with?" You may not find the same desires or the same...
6:08
You're not gonna be the same person that you were.
6:10
Your desires at 13 are not the same as your desires at 18.
6:14
And just the very same, your desires at 30 may be different than your desires at 60.
6:20
And so this gray divorce is a lot of what we would see and, and the struggles.

29 MINS LATER

35:05
Mm-hmm.
