mean, we all want growth.

I think the bond markets are just the background of concern there, which is also sort of a short-term versus long-term issue, which is that we've got some really big problems now.

The bond markets are looking very jumpy.

We're talking, Emily just mentioned, you know, young people out of work.

But we haven't heard anything about Labour's plans to really address those issues.

There's lots of cans being kicked down the road with a review coming next year on defence.

UKIP and other parties, but ones that were just emerging when you were in number 10 now are clearly still a huge force in British politics, aren't they? And even though there has been this little dip in the polls recently, it would be a foolish thing for the Conservatives and Labour to complacently feel that

And then not really how you want to hand the ball on to the next person who steps into number 10.

No, that's completely right.

And I think you flag another important difference, which is the difference between coming into number 10 after election when you fought a campaign and that transfer of power and you come in with a mandate and you've been campaigning on that mandate and you have your sort of retail offer for the country.

Transfers within a party in government, which I think is much more sort of messy now.

And a bit chaotic.

You don't know when and how.

And also, I think in the eyes of the public, that moment of when you sort of go, OK, this is my prime minister.

will be taking a lot of the bandwidth inside Number 10 now, is that understanding of what that legacy is leaving

Leveling up, Boris Johnson, the Northern Powerhouse, George Osborne, but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Uh, so I think, I mean, that's, uh, absolutely right.

You know, we, we have heard this tune before.

We have had, uh, the Northern Powerhouse, we have had leveling up, and we do hear about the red wall and the King of the North.

I do think prime ministers need to, by the way, rule for the whole country, and that goes for especially here in Exeter, not just setting the north-south, um, against each other.

But look, I think the key question, Alex, I think you touched on this in your, in your question, is, is it going to drive growth? And I think it is really important that we are more in touch with people locally.

You know, this was, if you like, the first quite cultural war I think our country had.

Everyone was very divided.

I mean, look, in a way it was a sign of a great democracy.

Maybe some point down the line there might be a, a UK-US trade agreement, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon because our focus is in negotiating with a big block, the European Union, to get a trade agreement done, and UK is gonna be in the back of the queue.

How safe would you say Ms Badenoch's position is?

Well, look, I think that she has bought herself a bit of time.

I think this week, although it's challenging with the polls looking bad and you've got, you know, councillors defecting to reform, it still looks like she shored herself up a bit.

She had something to say.

It took her a while to get round to.

Looking at policy, I mean, in my own view, I think she should have gone forward earlier with making her mark and setting out her stall, if you like.

But look, she had something to say.
