In terms of your own reaction at the time and the shock and the trauma that you went through, that has carried on, hasn't it?

Absolutely.

I suppose with such a short sentence of manslaughter, we were absolutely distraught.

The history of abuse could not be brought in because she pleaded guilty.

So it was literally down to like one push.

The judge wasn't made aware.

obviously the history of abuse because she pleaded guilty so it just looked like it was a push and obviously i suppose the history of abuse that our family found out about and we were absolutely distraught and my dad and alicia had a daughter we obviously had to take in her daughter and we are now guarded myself and my sister lynn are guardians of the daughter ellie and we look after rally as well so obviously it's been a huge change in our family our circumstances the trauma of grieving a father.

But once you discovered afterwards that there had been a history of abuse, there was no appeal mechanism open to you, was

Of some, like, imperfect actions that you've taken and what the result was.

Yeah, I mean, one of the big things that I did, um, probably b- the year before last was we were, we'd, i- in our organization, um, we had t- we had been there for probably about three or four years at this stage as a shared service organization.

I was very conscious of the fact that the team had, were there with me since the start as well, too, and they wanted development, and they were looking for that as well, too.

And, you know, it, you're trying to find ways to do that.

You don't have budget or anything like that, you know, so how do you actually help people develop? So I kind of relooked at my organization and did a bit of a restructure.

Um, and my thought process behind that was to give people an opportunity to kind of step up to be exposed to different markets rather than being boxed into what they had been in.

Um, and but part of that was actually a reshift of, uh, a portfolio of accounts.

Like, one thing last year, you went through a lot last year.

evidence

of what would come up in trial.

So when she pleaded guilty, we didn't get to hear, and obviously the court would not get to hear all the evidence that we would have or what they would have against this person.

So the likes of the history of abuse... and obviously any evidence that the guards had got, so witness statements, etc., that would not come up in the court.

So my dad never made any formal complaints.

He did have two safety orders against this person, but on both occasions he never formally went through with these safety orders.

hearing that, that kind of defeats the whole purpose of a victim impact

statement.
