But how many of his victims perhaps have died before seeing him been brought to justice?
9:33
A number of them have, and it was heartbreaking in court today to see the daughter of a woman called Lorraine Kennedy, who was a wonderful, warm, charismatic woman, and was one of the first, um, people to go to the guards.
9:50
She was a sister of Chalky White, and those two siblings were unaware that George Gibney was sexually abusing both of them, uh, when he was teaching them to swim.
10:04
Lorraine has died since, and her daughter, Louise, was in the court today, and it was an extremely difficult day for her.
10:14
Other people have died as well, including people who campaigned so hard and so bravely to get this day of justice.
10:24
Um, you mentioned Gary O'Toole.
10:26
Gary's father, Aidan, was in court today, and, uh, Aidan w- uh, had his own, uh, he was a, a swim coach himself, and he continuously begged the swimming authorities at the time to do something about Gibney, and they didn't.
11:39
... important that was.
21:50
Yeah, of crimes.
21:50
He's a pedophile in the true meaning of the word.
21:54
He assaulted and tried to rape prepubescent children, children under 12, which is the definition of a pedophile.
22:04
And there were people missing from that courtroom today who should have been there, and I'm thinking in particular of Chalky's own sister, Lorraine Kennedy, who was one of the early, um, complainants in the first investigation, and who has sadly died in the interim.
22:27
And her daughter, Louise, was sitting behind me in the courtroom, and it was just heartbreaking to see her thinking about her mother today.
22:38
There were other people, uh, Gary O'Toole's mother, Kay, who stood by him and by her husband, Aiden, who campaigned very hard.
22:48
Kay died in May.
25:39
Just for people at home, remind, what happened?
