There is no full-time press secretary now, so there did not appear to be the kind of proper vetting that there should be in consideration of this.

And the backlash has been incredible and across the board, and this is rich with ironies, right, Justin? Because the judge is a Trump-appointed judge who said, "Uh-uh, can't do this," and one of the people who took the lead on behalf of news organizations, who's the chair of the press pool, the White House press pool now, is the Fox News bureau chief, and last I checked, Fox News was a conservative news organization.

But Germany isn't the only country in Europe that has seen a shift to the political extremes.

Our Europe editor, Katya Adler, told Justin Webb about the significance of Germany's regional elections for Europe.

Well, it's first and foremost a Europe-wide issue because Germany is the biggest net payer into the EU budget.

So if you have economic and political upheaval in Germany, that has a definite ripple effect.

So, you know, Trump is, one, centralizing control into his own hands, which he does all the time, talking about how he's the one who should control this, and we should trust his judgment, but also framing this, uh, Justin and, and Mariana, as a competition with China, the idea of this is an arms race, and if you don't win it, you're gonna lose, and if you lose, then you're gonna be in serious trouble.

So in any discussions with China, when Xi Jinping comes here in, in a few weeks' time to visit President Trump for a summit at the White House, there is real common ground possibly for some sort of regulation on a global scale.

But you know, what Sarah said about President Trump being kind of at odds with, uh, with his, with the polling and, and what Justin was saying with, you know, Republican voters as well- I, I wonder if this has kind of just gotten past Donald Trump, because you get the sense here that a dam has broken.

I mean, walking in, I'll say that this morning to the office, literally every network o-over the last three days really has been covering nonstop the, the fear around what AI could pose to American society and to global society, and you, yeah, you do get the, the feeling now that perhaps this discussion has reached some sort of breaking point where there could be regulation.

Whether that comes from Congress, it's hard to believe much will come from Congress right now, but, um, it, it could be, and you do get the sense that there's a consensus here now.

How in blue blazes can Trump promise $5,000 to people who will vote for him? Is this what it boils down to now where you have to give money to get a vote? Is he this desperate that he knows he may possibly lose both houses?

We definitely see this in British politics.
