simply how governments raise debt that's all this debt they have they had to get it from somewhere yeah so they the main way they do that is selling government bonds sometimes they print money and and borrow from themselves but they're supposed to sell bonds on the open market so danny you've got extra million bucks there because you're a good steward so you say oh how am i going to invest my money i'm going to buy a japanese bond well, I'm going to buy American blue-chip bonds, you know, and this is how that government will raise the debt that they're using to run their everyday expenses in their country.

So when that price of the interest rate on that bond goes up, that's telling you what the bond market is expecting about the future.

And it's really related to the future because you can buy a bond that is a 30-year bond.
