What's changed the most over the past decade, in your opinion?
6:46
Yeah, when I think about when I used to manage a 20-person team and so many recruiters back in the day, it's not just that they're using AI today.
6:56
It's that the entire sourcing strategy has become so much more data-driven, skill-based, and more proactive.
7:03
So when I break it down today, I think of it in like three pieces.
7:07
Recruiters are searching for skills, not job titles.
7:11
So that's a really big change.
7:13
Back years ago, if you were looking for a marketing manager, that's what you would search for.
OlaHOST
11:32
I absolutely agree.
ShannonHOST
5:07
So what would you say, how would you advise them to communicate that value of what they're actually doing to the managers, to the VPs, to whoever needs to see it in leadership? Yeah.
5:19
Yeah, no, that's a good question.
5:21
I think that, you know, this goes back to like, how do you promote yourself without bragging, right? I mean, this is because, and I also think that women, different than men, they don't want to, they don't want to brag.
5:40
And I think that they, different than men, feel like they are bragging.
5:44
And so they almost, you know, diminish their You know, they diminish their their things like their accomplishments because then they think that they would be bragging.
5:56
And I there's something that I did for my boss.
6:01
I would write them.
ShannonHOST
8:20
So what do you think separates someone that is promotable versus someone who's just dependable?
FortuneHOST
22:02
So, um, Julie, what do you say to someone who's been laid off or a recent graduate who's sent out hundreds of applications and is starting to wonder if they are simply not good enough?
22:14
Yeah.
22:16
Um, you know, first, first I, I really do tell people not, not to lose hope.
22:25
Um, I also say that, you know, the perfect job, um, if, if you're in search of that, and then there are other people are, "I'm just looking for anything," that's, I don't think that's the right thing to do either.
22:41
So it's like opposite ends of the spectrum, right? "I'm looking for the perfect job," or, "I'm just looking for anything." I-- Somewhere in the middle, um, you know, a, a lot has to be right about a job.
22:55
The company, the culture, the mission, your manager, the team, the work itself.
22:59
I mean, opportunities for growth, even the commute if, if you're, you know, if, if that's a thing where you live.
