Over the past decade, we have seen how North Korea has systematically exploited cyberspace to acquire assets, both currency and via fiat currency
6:05
currencyPrior to this period, North Korea had engaged in malicious cyber activities for other objectives.
6:13
We may remember the Sony Pictures hack in 2014, which I think was orchestrated for political purposes, North Korea's retaliation against the planned release of the movie Interview, a comedy depicting the assassination of Kim Jong-un.
6:31
And also another, a notable example is, uh, Dark Seoul attack in 2013, the primary objective of which was to instill public panic through the disruption of critical services.
6:46
But now we are watching how North Korea mobilizes all means at its disposal to generate money.
6:53
Of course, I would like to emphasize that this trend shift doesn't mean that they are no longer interested in politically oriented cyber operations, but just would like to say their priority has been changed.
7:05
But I think I cannot talk about the background behind this shift without mentioning the UN Security Council sanctions.
