do you is there evidence of that uh in in los angeles do we see you know acceleration of transportation projects that you think otherwise in the absence of the games might have really languished or is that sort of uh you know justification after the fact

oh no there's absolutely been acceleration and improved coordination there's the game's mobility executives which is striving to break down the silos between agencies cooperate to make things happen because they know that this is a regional event and the traditional uh bureaucratic uh boundaries uh aren't really going to be an excuse for like oh sorry you didn't get to orange county but that's a whole different person right um But still, LA is a collection of a county and 88 cities, and you require all of those to work in lockstep.

I've been pretty impressed with what Long Beach has been able to do, which is taking a cluster of events and venues and really leaning in.

The city of Los Angeles, which is the big city in Los Angeles County, uh has been having more struggles lately uh well the struggles that the city has in making changes to its public space and particularly public right-of-way transportation networks have become particularly acute because of the deadline of the 2028 games layered on top of so many other things um know fixing sidewalks for ada compliance measure hla and implementing mobility plan 2035 and then just general um desire from people for having safer streets like that those are all kind of layering up on the city of los angeles um and which coincidentally will have a charter reform measure on the ballot in november that will give the city the internal structure to start dealing with that backlog.

Now, is it going to be too late, a year and a half before the games? Probably.

We're not going to get the full amount of preparation, and we're not going to have the full benefit of the potential momentum in the city of Los Angeles.

But that momentum really, I think, did expose these institutional issues issues that needed to be fixed and the fact that everybody's saying, we got to do this, we got to do this, and it's still having problems.

So what is in that charter reform that would meaningfully address some of these problems?
