How proud is your father that he didn't scare you off a career in medicine?
6:23
Yeah, no, he didn't scare me off.
6:24
But I got interviewed by the local newspaper in my hometown.
6:27
And one of the things I said to them, which is absolutely true, is that when I go back to the hometown, I'm still Dr. Reimer's daughter.
6:34
I may be Dr. Reimer, but not there.
6:36
There I am Dr. Reimer's daughter, and that will always be the case.
6:38
And so I think he's pretty proud of that.

8 MINS LATER

14:23
So what is your goal in terms of rebuilding trust?
7:58
How would you describe, um, what happened to the trust that Canadians had in institutions coming out of the pandemic?
8:08
The, the pandemic was hard for all of us, and not for the same reasons all the time.
8:13
But whether people agree or disagree with decisions that were made when things were shut down, that doesn't change how difficult it was for people when they were losing jobs, when their income was affected, when they were isolated from friends and family.
8:27
That was a difficult time.
8:29
And so I think in many ways it makes sense that people would feel some distrust because there were harms associated with all of the decisions that were made, regardless of which direction they were made in, harms if people were exposed unnecessarily to the virus, and harms when they were prevented from earning a living, seeing friends and family.
8:47
And so this is gonna take us many years to rebuild trust, and, and it's one of the, the real downsides and challenges of any sort of major health concern, outbreak, pandemic.
8:59
We need to come together as a country and build a, a positive way forward where we can trust each other and know that even when we disagree, all of us want Canadians to be healthy.

6 MINS LATER

15:25
H-how will what you've just talked about approach how you address the issues around, around vaccines in this country?
19:57
Let's get you on track.
19:58
One of the big challenges with the way health is provincial or territorial is that actually every province does this a little differently.
20:04
So where I live in Manitoba, we are digitized.
20:07
So we actually have all of our vaccinations back to 1980 is in an online database so we can access all of that.
20:15
Your doctor can see it.
20:16
They can see it in the hospital.
20:18
Really, really helpful to be able to, you know, I just did a shift on Friday at the hospital and we had somebody that we were worried about whether or not she might have chicken pox.

6 MINS LATER

26:46
And where's the CDC in any of that? That really horrifies me.
19:57
Let's get you on track.

10:37
Thank you.
10:52
Oh, good, was it afternoon or morning? I don't know.
10:55
Good day, everyone.
10:58
Thank you so much for this opportunity.
10:59
Merci à tous et à toutes pour l'opportunité de parler avec vous aujourd'hui.
11:03
C'est un plaisir.
11:05
And specifically to talk about this topic, because I think it's something that's front of mind for many of us and something that's personal to all of us.

33 MINS LATER

43:45
And some of the best teams I've seen have had dyads of physician leaders and administrative and healthcare leaders working side by side to getting things done for their community.
16:36
How is a doctor or any doctor, how do they approach that situation? Do you actually try to sit a patient down when they come up with something like that where I don't want vaccinated blood from a transfusion? How do you have a conversation? How do you even begin to have a conversation? What do you try to tell a patient in that situation?
16:49
Those are really difficult situations because you know that this person is trying to make good health decisions.
16:55
Nobody's trying to hurt themselves.
16:56
Nobody's trying to make some decision that's going to harm their family.
17:00
And that's where it's really important to start, that we have a mutual interest in this person's health outcome.
17:07
We're both trying to have a good outcome for this individual.
17:10
And that's where we always try to say, you know, we right now disagree on how we get there, but I am here because I care about your health outcomes.
18:47
What do we do today to try to turn that corner to actually get more doctors, more nurse practitioners?
