Now, both these groups have a lot in common, but what do you, what do you see them both get wrong about pressure?
14:13
Hmm.
14:14
So it's really interesting.
14:16
I've been, I've been kind of thinking about this, this lately.
14:20
Um, and I had a, I had a conversation, uh, recently with a, with a, a woman who, uh, works with a lot of hedge fund, uh, people in, in, in, in the psychology, psychology, um, field.
14:33
And what was interesting is she was talking about how there's always emotion.
14:38
And it, it's kind of interesting 'cause I kept thinking about, you know, locking into the, the [lip smacks] the performance is not about, uh, you know, locking into the process over and over and over again, right? In the process, process, process.

23:00
Mm-hmm.
4:15
So why is a frame and foundation like that defining your story?
4:21
So when you think about The word story, what that is, like you just said, it's a narrative.
4:27
It's how the day unfolds and what events occur and all of these different activities and actions.
4:36
And when I think story, I think the drama and things of that nature.
4:40
The reason I use the word story is because human beings, that's what we do.
4:46
We create stories in our mind about anything that happens to us.
4:52
There was a great study done in 19, I believe it was 1948, and it's called the Heider-Simmel effect.

7 MINS LATER

12:18
But how do you sell it in for the people who don't necessarily get it from the get go?
0:35
How did you use the training to really train the brain, train the mindset? And how did that become the powerful tool that you thought was a linchpin in that win? Yeah.
0:46
Yeah, so just a couple things with that team, and it's been highly documented other places, but I just want to make sure that everybody knows, like, I was one small piece of that.
0:59
There was so many people that were involved in that 2016 win.
1:04
There's a phrase, if you want to go fast, you go alone.
1:08
If you want to go far, you go together.
1:10
The companies, everybody in that organization was on board from the business side to the charity side, to the baseball ops, to the analytics, to the managers, the coaches, the player development, the scouting.
1:23
Every single person was rolling the boat the right direction.
4:15
But from there, how did you help support the transformation? How did you get them to the other side? What does that process look like?
10:53
When did that occur?
10:55
Yeah, so the long story short is I'm living in New York.
10:59
I have this moment of realization that I, I love the restaurant industry, it's super fun.
11:04
I'm working in high-end places, you know, I'm working in three- and four-star restaurants, and then I kind of have this epiphany that I need to go back to school, and I need to like, if I'm gonna...
11:14
Like first of all, kudos to anybody that stays in the restaurant business for a long time, 'cause that is a tough industry.
11:20
That will beat you to your knees physically and mentally, and my body, knees, shoulders, back, everything was, was feeling it on a pretty consistent basis.
11:29
So I, I kind of knew I had to make a move.

8 MINS LATER

19:29
... with athletes, though, on the mental side of performance? 'Cause as you said, back then it wasn't that big a deal.
