What is it about his writing that draws you in so much about Tobias Walsh's writing?
12:48
I think, I think a big thing about it is he puts a lot of respect on the reader to do the hard work of, intuiting kind of the hidden layers to the writing he doesn't just spill out what he wants to say to you he leaves it a little bit obscure without it being um like forcefully hidden you know i think there's just layers to the writing um and i do think that it's a breath of fresh air especially reading now a lot of modern novels where it just feels like full-throated just dump onto the page of like every thought that goes through your head like i kind of want to do the work a little bit as a reader um and i think that i've encountered him like i said earlier in a short story space primarily and i think to that form as opposed to a novel or something longer like a memoir um there has to be this heightened sense of language almost like there is in poetry like the thing like you don't have as much space right so words need to carry more weight and i think that he just does that beautifully without It seems so it's almost like the first time I read Hemingway, you read a Hemingway story and it's like about a guy and his son, they're just canoeing down the lake, you know, whatever.

Yeah.
14:04
Um, and at first you can read that just on the surface, which I did for many years and like, oh, it's a cute little story.

And then, you know, later after living some more life, I come back to it with fresh eyes and I'm like, whoa, I never saw this before.
14:17
There's so much depth here.
14:18
Yeah.
