What are the challenges that they bring to the table that I need to address to help them heal?

You know, I want to go back to kind of the two system pieces that I can think of.

One being that Medicaid or really insurance in general gives my patient and me access to things.

You know, I alluded to diagnostic testing, you know, referrals to specialists and things like that.

The other thing I think about is we alluded to it before, but just to give it a chance to explain.

So when we talk about respite care, that is an opportunity to have post-operative care.

And that could be or take place even in a shelter that has designated nurses that can follow patients over time.

As a closing question, I did want to ask, has treating this population changed the way you think of yourself as doctors and also what gives you hope? When you look out there, is there anything that gives you hope or is this such a difficult time that it's hard to feel much hope?

So can each of you describe sort of your typical day and the kind of patients you see and how what you're seeing is so different than if you were caring for a more privileged population?

Yeah.

So at the Murphy Center Clinic, typically it's a mix of both scheduled appointments as well as some appointment slots that are dedicated to walk-in visits.

I'd say the spread in terms of what we evaluate is pretty broad.

There certainly is a component of mental health service.

There's a component of substance use treatment and medication-assisted therapy.

And certainly there's a component of chronic disease management that just has been neglected for so long that this is a first opportunity.

Are there certain illnesses that you see that are particularly challenging?
