Jonathan, what were the biggest challenges for you to integrate the new footage, especially the cinematography that we love from the great Jerry Finnerman back in the day, to replicate and make sure that it all looked like it was the same?
47:49
It was quite a challenge, but I knew Jerry Finnerman.
47:53
I had helped him out.
47:54
years earlier and when I got the job first of all from Ira and from Ron I questioned why me you know I was a cinematographer on Deep Space Nine I had done the last two seasons of Next Gen but uh and I had only directed what three maybe four episodes so I didn't think I was in contention every other director wanted the show but Ira just said well you know you're the technical guy you know everything you've worked with our actors before you work with our cast every single day and you and Gary Hutzel, the visual effects supervisor, can handle it.
48:25
All of a sudden, Gary came over, the late Gary, came over and showed me a stack of papers this high.
48:33
I thought it was the script, but it was just the visual effects notes.
48:37
It was twice as thick as the script was.

So, Jonathan, I want to ask you how you set up shooting Terry and Avery for the shot in the back and then shot them up close and made, again, and made the lighting all
27:46
Because of all this that you were just saying, Jonathan, and because this all had to be done, was there any discussion of the episode being shot in nine days instead of eight days? not to me so so they forced you to do extra work but in the time frame of an episode that didn't require this extra work
28:05
yes and i guess our hours probably showed that i would imagine i don't have all the hours written down here but i do remember One evening, we had wrapped, or we were going to wrap, we'd done 12 hours, and it was about 9 at night on a Friday.
28:21
And we got notes sent down from the office that said, stop everything, stay there, everybody don't move.
28:26
And they gave us three more pages to shoot in the Turbolift with Bashir and O'Ryan.
28:33
And we were done at one in the morning at that point.
28:36
Yeah, so I think we all pushed.
28:39
Getting back to the visual effects, though, the only things that really were so critical, Terry, when you were on the bridge with Kirk and you walked down on the frame, you walked behind him as he got up.
